Split Dalmatia County is visible defined in tourist offers as Dalmatia highlands, Dalmatia coast and Dalmatia islands so that as Riviera Trogir, Riviera Kastela, Riviera Split and Riviera Makarska.

Dalmatian cusine in Split restaurants is among the most best on the planet. Quality and fresh ocean seafood, shells or meat specialties coupled with fresh veggies. Add on the top popular black Mediteranean wines like merlot, cabarnet, plavac, dingac, postup and quality whitened wines like malvazija, posip, pinot, vugava i kujundzusa coupled with Dalmatian music and also you sampled Dalmatia.

Some of Croatia’s seaside cities appear tailor-designed for tourism, Split is real and vibrant. Relaxing alongside the Adriatic Ocean around the famous Dalmatian Coast, Split is Croatia’s second-biggest city (after capital Zagreb), which makes it a busy metropolis, serious port city, major transit hub, and top sightseeing destination, all folded into one.

Split has all of the trappings of the modern city. But a detailed consider the making it through facade from the Roman structure fronting its harbor discloses its ancient roots. Within the 4th century A.D., once the Roman Emperor Diocletian upon the market, he built a huge residence for his golden years within his native Dalmatia. When Rome fell, the structure was abandoned. Eventually, a medieval town sprouted from the abandoned spend. And, even today, the maze of narrow walkways — literally Diocletian’s hallways at one time — comprises the core of Split. Present day citizens are really residing in a Roman emperor’s structure.

In its heyday, the harbor front was Diocletian’s mystery. There is no embankment while watching structure, therefore the water came up to the doorway — kind of an urgent situation exit by boat. Just inside this gate, site visitors can explore a labyrinth of cellars that when supported the structure. Discovered only within the last century, the cellars enabled archaeologists to derive the ground plan of a few of the palace’s lengthy-gone upper sections.

In the cellars, a great subterranean hallway, now used like a shopping arcade, leads outdoors towards the Peristyle (Split’s primary square) and Diocletian’s vestibule, the significantly domed entranceway towards the emperor’s private rooms. Nowadays, this grand space is frequently the place to find an exciting-male gang of a cappella performers carrying out klapa — the essential Dalmatian folk music. These tunes of seafaring existence, of loves lost and loves found, stir the souls of Croatians and site visitors alike.

Looking over the Peristyle, Diocletian’s mausoleum once centered the middle of the structure complex. A lot of the initial Roman building survives, such as the impressive dome, posts and capitals, and fine created reliefs. Diocletian was well known for persecuting Christian believers. But a 1000 years back, his mausoleum was changed into the Cathedral of St. Dominus. And thus, ironically, what Diocletian created to glorify his memory can be used rather to keep in mind his sufferers.

A couple of steps away is really a temple devoted to Jupiter. Roman emperors frequently made themselves gods. Diocletian was Jovius, boy from the top god, Jupiter. People kissed his robe he was just like a deity on the planet. Concerning the time the mausoleum grew to become a cathedral, the temple was converted to a baptistery, housing an enormous twelfth-century baptismal font big enough to immerse someone (as was the tradition in individuals days).

Just outdoors that old Town is really a museum devoted to Ivan Mestrovic, Croatia’s response to Rodin. Mestrovic’s sculptures, which illustrate scriptural, mythological, political, and everyday styles, abound in Croatia — within the roads, squares, and museums. His work also seems within the U . s . States — for instance, he sculpted a set of giant Indian players on horseback in Chicago’s Grant Park.

The museum’s highlights range from the silently poignant Roman Pieta, by which Mestrovic follows the classical pyramid form, with Frederick of Arimathea, Mary and Mary Magdalene all around the limp body of Christ (also, he did a marble version of the for that campus of Notre Dame in Indiana). The sculpture Job — howling by having an agony verging on madness — was created through the artist in exile, as his country was switched upside lower by The Second World War. Mestrovic drew his inspiration with this piece as they was jailed through the Ustase, Croatia’s Nazi puppet government.

After diving in to the city’s ancient and artistic past, I like sinking into modern-day Split. Matejuska has lengthy been Split’s working fishermen’s harbor. As the area has gotten a facelift, still it maintains its candy striped-collar character. The enclosed harbor area is stuffed with working fishing boats for sale and colorful dinghies that bob in symphony. In the opposite finish of town, the lively open-air Eco-friendly Marketplace is where citizens look for produce and garments.

The Marjan Peninsula, an enormous, hilly, and relatively undeveloped spit of parkland, situated right alongside Split’s Old Town, feels as though a slice of backwoods, a stone’s throw in the large city. Without having-of-the-way beaches and miles of hiking and biking trails, this is when citizens visit relax.

Famous American hard rock and roll band Guns N ‘ Roses have reported they will be playing a one off concert in Croatia this summer in the Dalmatian town of Split. Lead frontman Axl Rose will make his 2nd appearance in Croatia when he plays at the Spaladium Arena in the Adriatic coast city of Split on seventeen July. The band who made their name with classic hits like “Sweet Kid o ‘ Mine” and “November Rain” have revealed the gig on their official web site. Guns N ‘ Roses will play at the Exit Holiday in Serbia 2 days before the split concert.

With the concert set to be in the middle of Croatia’s holiday maker season, tickets are anticipated to sell out fast.

Guns N ‘ Roses was formed in March 1985 by frontman Axl Rose and rhythm guitar player Izzy Stradlin of Hollywood Rose, with lead guitar player Tracii Guns, bass player Ole Beich, and drummer Rob Gardner of L.A. Guns. The band coined its name by mixing a couple of the group members ‘ names. After only a short while, in which they allegedly played just 2 or 3 shows, Beich got replaced by Duff McKagan, while Guns ‘ absence of attendance at rehearsals led on to his replacement by Chop . Gardner give up just after and got replaced by Steven Adler. Stradlin had formerly played with Cut in Hollywood Rose, while Cut had played with McKagan and Adler in Road Crew.

In June 1985, just 4 days after the lineup was finished, the band started on a short, disorganised tour of the West Coast, from Sacramento, California, to McKagan’s family town of Seattle, Washington. The supposed “Hell Tour” cemented the band’s first stable lineup, with McKagan later commenting, “This trip had set a new baseline for what we were capable of, what we could and would put ourselves thru to gain our goals as a band.” Thru their inflating presence on the Hollywood club sceneplaying such legendary bars as The Troubadour and The RoxyGuns N ‘ Roses drew the notice of major record labels. They were signed by Geffen Records in March 1986, getting a $75,000 advance. In December of that year, they released the four-song EP Live ?!Like a Suicide, engineered to keep interest in the band alive while they withdrew from the club scene to work in the studio. The EP contained covers of Rose Tattoo’s “Nice Boys” and Aerosmith’s “Mama Kin”, together with 2 original compositionsthe punk anthem “Reckless Life” and the classic rock-inspired “Move to the City.” though promoted as a live recording, the 4 songs were taken from the band’s demo tapes and overdubbed with crowd noise. Live ?!* Like a Suicide was released on the Geffen subsidiary UZI Suicide, with production restricted to ten thousand vinyl copies.

Guns N ‘ Roses ‘ first album Hunger for Eradication was released in July 1987. The album went through a design change after the first cover design by Robert Williamsdepicting a surrealist scene in which a dagger-toothed monster vengefully attacks a robot rapistwas presumed too questionable. The revised cover was a design by Bill White, a tattooist, who had initially designed the design for a tattoo Rose had purchased the year before.

The design featured every one of the 5 band members ‘ skulls layered on a cross. Rose later maintained that the Platinum and Gold plaques issued by the RIAA be set utilizing the original cover art, which can often be found in the pamphlet of the CD release. In the U.S, “Welcome to the Jungle” was issued as the album’s first single, with an accompanying promo vid. At first , the album and single lingered for virtually a year without performing well, but when Geffen founder David Geffen was asked to loan support to the band, he required by personally convincing MTV middle management to play “Welcome to the Jungle” during their after-hours revolution. Although the video was at first only played once at four a.m. On a Sun. , heavy metal and hard rock fans took notice and shortly commenced asking for the video and song en masse. The song featured in the 1988 Grimy Harry film The Dead Pool, starring Clint Eastwood, and members of the band had a brief appearance in the flick.

This places Croatia among top destinations for young travelers.

Online community that includes over one million users and experienced tourists describes the Croatian hostel in this way: ‘If you are looking for a hostel to boast, but that also gives you stylish and modern experience, you simply have to try Golly&Bossy, design hostel in Split. This renovated department store provides a unique and futuristic atmosphere, because you unlock doors with smartphone applications, then retire in a private capsule for sleep. Vivid colors, modern architecture and a restaurant in the hostel draw Croatia on the map of world hostels.’

Split hostel took this high position in the tough global competition, ahead of the crazy hostels in New York, Rome, Australia and New Zealand!
Ante Kotarca, the owner of the hostel says that this award, that comes just before the beginning of the tourist season in which after a few uncertain season he expects a significant return of tourists to the Croatian coast, is evidence that he and his colleagues managed to devise and implement a new tourism concept which is now officially recognized internationally. The particularity of the Golly&Bossy hostel is also its shady terrace which is ideal for exchanging experiences with fellow travelers.

The hostel also has a restaurant with fanciful name De Belly, where the main leader is Ivica Katic, young chef who acquired his culinary experience cooking in Germany and Dubai, bringing with him to Split the best of all cultures, blending them into a gastronomic fantasy combined with local, Mediterranean flavors.

It is a must for anyone with a bike. Every year thousands of bikers are taking the journey across the country down to Split and at the same time many are using the opportunity to get a complete respray of their bikes at a fraction of the cost back home.

Moto Ogi offers professional resprays and says most of the customers come from Austria and Germany. The money saved is so much that it covers the cost of the trip and holiday hotel accommodation while they wait for the work to be done, according to Croatian business platform www.fullbusiness.com.

source: croatiantimes.com
Ognjen Trifunovic who owns and runs the Moto Ogi company in the Adriatic port of Split said: “People get a free holiday and then some from what they say on the paint job.” The family owned company says bikers from as far afield as Belgium have made the journey across Europe for a professional brush up. Just as the Hungarian border now has dozens of dental surgeries attracting Austrians for cheaper dental work – so Croatia with the lure of the E56 is now doing a roaring trade in bike facelifts. A typical respray is two or three times cheaper than in Western Europe.

Trifunovic said: “We can draw whatever images a client wants starting from already 800 or 900 Euro. In most of European countries you can’t even paint your motorcycle in one colour for that price. The thing is that we have a great level of a service, but our working hours are much cheaper than in the rest of European countries.”

Santa Maria is a very popular pizzeria and Mexican restaurant in Vodice. Vodice are situated south-west from Split, and it is your ideal stop if you decide to visit National Park Kornati. Santa Maria at first looks more like an antique shop or a museum, but its unusual layout is what makes it so special.

The owner, Sime Pelajic-Brunac decided to tell the story of Vodice and many local traditions through the decorations of his restaurant. The restaurant is located in an old stone house, which makes for a perfect setting of this ‘’gastro museum’’.

No matter where you sit, you will have plenty of interesting items at your sight, and this is the kind of place that you can never be bored at. You will find many unusual items from donkey and goats statues, to wooden ship models, photographs, newspaper clippings to antique furniture and household items.

Be sure to visit this place when you go to Split. If you need accommodation in Split consider these apartments, too.

The fourth edition of Open performance Days Festival – DOPUST, will be held from 13th to 21st of May, at four different locations – Split, Dubrovnik, Rijeka and Zagreb.

DOPUST is a project that discusses the concept of centralization in the form of social, cultural and artistic heritage. It came to be from the need for the development and expansion of individual initiatives and artistic associations within this system. The project aims to achieve long-term plan that will have a purpose and a function within the connotations of decentralization in cultural and artistic fields.

This year’s festival program will be held in four cities in Croatia (Split, Dubrovnik, Rijeka, Zagreb) and will gather famous names of Croatian performance scene and provide space for happenings created by Zagreb, Split and Rijeka students.
At www.dopust.info you will be able to monitor the performance at the above-mentioned cities, and the entire program and schedule, which this year includes a four-day experimental workshop which will be held at Unity Hall (dvorana Jednistvo) in Zagreb, as well as numerous participants of the round table discussion on the topic of decentralization, moderated by Dea Vidovic.

This year’s DOPUST festival was developed in cooperation with NGOs Second Sea (Drugo More) from Rijeka and Art workshop Lazareti from Dubrovnik.

Collaborators of this year’s festival are MKC Split / Zagreb Clubture / Pogon – Center for Independent Culture and Youth / SC Gallery, Zagreb / Nano Gallery, Zagreb / Dea Vidovic
